Our team provided structural engineering consultancy for 28,500m2 Store Extension to the existing IKEA in Moscow.
The existing store is one of their busiest in Europe and requires additional space to cater to the projected growth in customer numbers.
The extension was designed as a single storey steel frame with steel trusses on precast RC columns and a lightweight metal deck roof on a 24-12 m grid, giving clear and flexible internal space for high stacking storage.
The extension included the relocation of the existing delivery docks and a new transfer structure over existing water storage tanks in the ground. It was also proposed that the internal precast concrete mezzanine level (containing shopping display areas) was also to be extended to create more exhibition space.
